Year 6 Science - Heart Day

Lesson: Science

Class: Year 6D Year: 2016 - 2017

Last week, as part of the work on the human body, year 6 had a rather different day!

The whole day was dedicated to the heart.

We began by looking at the purpose of the heart as well as the different sections and labelling them.

Next, the children made a clay model to show the four main blood vessels of the heart:

  • Vena cava
  • Pulmonary artery
  • Pulmonary vein
  • Aorta

After lunch, the children worked in small groups to dissect a lamb’s heart. They had to identify the different sections of the heart we had been discussing earlier in the day.

The day ended with the children writing a detailed recount of the dissection.

Well done to all of year 6 for the sensible and mature attitude they demonstrated during the day.
