Admissions

Children about to commence full time education are admitted into school annually in the September before their fifth birthday. Other children are admitted by arrangement with the headteacher in accordance with Cheshire East Council Policy.

School applications timeline for September 2024

1st September 2023 – Reception admissions 2024 application opens

15th January 2024  – Reception admissions for September 2024 online application closes

15th February 2024 – Deadline for receipt of support documentation

16th April 2024 – Reception places offer released to view online

30th April 2024 - Deadline for accepting or refusing places 

After 20th April 2024 - Waiting lists prepared and vacancies allocated

10 days from offer – Deadline for accepting or refusing a place

14th May 2024 – Appeal application deadline

Heard by 19th July 2024 - Appeal hearings  (on time applications) 

Appeal hearings (late applications) – Appeal hearings will be heard within 40 days of appeal closing date where possible or 40 school days of appeal being lodged. 

 

For all In Year School Admissions/transfers

Applications for school places ‘in year’ are for admission after 6th September 2023, the first day of the school year, into any year group but this does not include applications being made for admission to Reception class for September 2024 admission.  You will need to complete an ‘in year’ application form.

Admission 

As a Local Authority Maintained school, Cheshire East are the Admitting Authority. The current criteria used for oversubscription is: 

  1. Children who are Cared For, or previously Cared For by the Local Authority
  2. Siblings still within the school when the new child joins 
  3. Parents and children living within the Catchment Area
  4. Proximity to the school

 

Appeals Deadlines and timetable

Normal Round Appeals (Reception)

Parents and carers have the right to appeal against a decision to refuse entry.  They can do so by sending an appeal form to the school by the appeals deadline.  An Appeal forms can be found within the link above.  Dates for appeal deadlines can be found on the local authority website Cheshire East Admissions Team.  Appeals lodge after these dates (late application for appeal) will be heard within 40 school days of the appeal deadline or 30 school days of being lodged, which ever is the later date.  See link above to downloadable Appeal timetable.

 

‘In Year’ Appeals

Parents and carers have the right to appeal against a decision to refuse entry.  Appeal applications must be lodged with Cheshire East within 20 school days from the date of notification the application for admission was unsuccessful.  Appeals are normally heard within 30 school days from the date the completed appeal form is received by the school.

An independent panel hears all appeals.  The Appeal Panel’s decision is binding for all parties concerned.

Notification of the appeal hearing will be sent to appellants 10 school days in advance of the hearing.  If an appellant wishes to provide evidence which was not included in their original application or appeal form this must be received 5 working days before the hearing date.  Otherwise the Panel is entitled to decide not to accept information or evidence submitted after the deadline. Decision letters willl be sent within 5 school days of the hearing wherever possible.

Further details of appeal arrangements are set out in the revised Code Of Practice on School Admissions Appeals, which came into force in September 2004 and was updated February 2012.

In EYFS and Key Stage One (years 1 & 2), class sizes cannot exceed the authorised limit. 

If a Key Stage Two class (years 3-6) is over-subscribed, it will be assessed on a case-by-case basis.
