‘Strive to grow, value, nurture, motivate’

Year 5 - Summer Support

We hope that you enjoy the activities that have been planned for you. Follow the links below to access the recommended webpages and videos to help you to practise the knowledge that you have learnt this year.

Reading

Read your Book Club book every day for 15 minutes. Use your bookmark to complete the tasks and keep track of your page target. We look forward to completing the Book Club Quiz with you when you return in September! Keep a record of any other books you enjoy reading over summer too. You could read a non-fiction text about one of our upcoming topics: Mid-West America, Vikings and electricity. You may enjoy listening to stories too. You could access a free audiobook on Researchify or BBC

Writing

Each week, write two entries in your summer diary. These could be experiences you have had, current news topics or things you are looking forward to next year. This will be a primary source of information which will be interesting for historians to look back at in the future! Therefore, use your neatest handwriting and re-read your writing, checking for edits. You could use Bitesize to revise the spelling, grammar and punctutation rules from Year 5. We can’t wait to share your diaries in September and look at your memories of Summer 2021!

Spelling

As well as practising the Year 5&6 spelling words (attached below) as part of your handwriting work, you may choose to watch one spelling video a week below to practise your spelling rules. Click on the links below to watch the spelling rules that you need to practise. Spellingframe is an excellent website to revise spelling rules.

Handwriting

Each week, practise writing out 15 of the Year 5/6 spelling words. You should write these legibly, fluently and with increasing speed. Think about how to form and whether to join each letter. Leave sensible finger spacing between each word. Use a handwriting pen.

Maths

It is really important that you know all your key number facts ready for Year 6.

Learn and practise all of your times table and division facts up to 12x12 on TT Rockstars. These websites may also be helpful to visit: Topmarks   Bitesize
