How are you all? I hope you are all keeping well and had a lovely weekend.
Your home learning overview for this week can be found on our class page. Go to 'Class Pages'; choose 5B and scroll down until you see 'Files to Download' - 'Year 5 Home Learning wb 27.04.20'. Have a look through all of the activities. If you have any questions, please reply to this blog. You will notice on your history task, I've asked you to share some interesting facts with us on our class blog about the Anglo-Saxons. I look forward to reading them!
How are you getting on with your maths? I noticed there was a paticularly tricky question last week. I emailed you all on Purple Mash with some help with that. If you have any questions about your home learning please reply to this blog or email me on Purple Mash.
I can see that many of you have been going on TTRockstars regularly! This is excellent, well done! If you haven't been on for a little while, please try and complete a couple of studio games each day. Congratulations to Maddie and Owen who are currently 2nd and 4th on the overall leaderboard!
It was so lovely to hear from so many of you last week your blogs and emails really do make me smile! Thank you for attaching your work to your emails for me to read. The work you're completing is amazing and a real pleasure to read. Keep up the great work 5B!
I hope you all have a lovely week and enjoy the tasks that have been set for you. I look forward to hearing from you all.
The task for geography this week is to design and create a matching game of the features of a river. Your game must include detailed sketches, features and detailed definitions.
Features to include: source, bank, bed, confluence, erosion, estuary, floodplain, meander, mouth, waterfall, tributary and oxbow lake.
Once you have created your game, why not play it with a family member? Let me know how you get on Owen!
Hi everyone I hope you have all had a good weekend.
So far today I have done Maths, English and a walk with Cooper and a bit of History.
Mrs Berry, I really enjoyed the Wind in the Willows movie - it was very funny and surprising and Toad is my favourite character.
Did you know: The Anglo-Saxons established the Kingdom of England, and the modern English language owes almost half of its words, including the most common words of everyday speech to their language.
Oh wow that experiment sounds exciting! Thank you for sharing your findings with us. Great scientific language Cameron. I like how you've used the phrase 'fixed shape'.
I'm so glad you enjoyed watching The Wind in the Willows. It's really good to read the classic text and watch the film to make comparisons. Once you've read this classic text, you will have read your first book from Ms La Porta's reading challenge!
Thank you for sharing your interesting fact with us Ollie. Keep up the great work!
I have done my English and I am doing my geography and I don’t understand where the other to boxes are from Ireland and Scotland please can I shave some help
Stay safe
Daniel
Well done for all the work you've done this morning.
These are all the names of the cities you should have:
London, Cardiff, Edinburgh, Belfast, Cambridge, York, Newcastle, Manchester, Birmingham, Glasgow, Aberdeen, Swansea, Derry-Londonderry, Bangor, Inverness and Liverpool.
Oops I meant I was doing the history sheet ‘where did they come from?’ I know the Anglos, Saxons and jutes came from Denmark, Germany and the Netherlands but I don’t know what the other boxes on the sheet are for? Which other places should I be adding onto the sheet?
Did you know:
Religion was very important in Anglo Saxon times and the church was very powerful. An accused person could also be tried by the church in a 'trial by ordeal'. These were ways of letting God decide if a person was innocent or guilty.
Hi guys I have done my science and Putting water in a balloon and gas in a balloon. When you hold them they are both easy to hold on they can both change shape because gas doesn’t stay in the same place and water doesn’t however we put another two with the same amount of water and gas in the freezer and I am going to leave them there overnight I will tell you what is happening tomorrow
Stay safe
Daniel
Hope you are all ok, it's lovely to read all your comments and hear what you are getting up to at home. I am so proud of you for keeping up with the home learning activities. You are all superstars!
Happy birthday Noah and Reagan!! It must have been a different kind of birthday but I hope you managed to have a lovely day. I'm glad you could see your friends Noah even if it was over Zoom! It's good to keep in touch with each other.
Hi everyone.
Science investigation 1 - balloon experiment.
both balloons hold their shape and don't change shape easily. The water balloon feels much nicer to squash.
That's all for now.
I have been enjoying going on TT Rockstars and spelling frame. My mum has been testing me regularly on lots of spellings. I am struggling with the English activities but good with my maths. I have signed for another year at Port Vale so can't wait to get back to football. Missing all of my friends, see you all soon, Owen
Hi i’ve put the balloons in the freezer and the one with gas in stayed with gas in but the one with water entering to ice however the one with gas in has fragments of ice on the side.
Take care
Daniel
Hi all. Hope ur all well! I have an interesting fact for you. Did you know that the Jutes didnt actually called themselves jutes, mainly referring to themselves as 'Kentings'. Also ddid u know that Bede reckoned that the Anglo-Saxons were the most powerful tribe in Scandinavia and Germany. Have a great day!

Hi! Today I did maths, English and history twice! I did a family tree as it was one of my brother's tasks and did the Anglo-Saxon powerpoint. Hope you are all ok.
Hello class!
I have done my science.
The balloon containing gas wasn’t as easy to push whereas the one containing water was all floppy and it was so easy to push, bend and squeeze because the water keeps shape of the balloon. But the air is trapped inside of the balloon so it can’t go anywhere, it feels solid and as if it will pop at any moment (which it will if I Press too hard)!🤣
Take care,
Albie
Hi everyone
Today I have finished my maths and English. I have done Geography too and played the game. My science experiment is still carrying on measuring the liquid over the weekend.
This week my favourite thing to do was my power point presentation.
Hope you all have a great weekend.
Ollie
Hi mrs Berry,
Thank you Mrs Berry for holding the zoom meeting I really enjoyed it. Please could we have another one soon.
Take care
Daniel
PS did you know that Essex meant East Saxons Wessex meant West Saxons Middlesex meant middle Saxons and Sussex meant South Saxons
I'm good thank you. I hope you've had a good week.
Well done for all the effort you're putting in on TT Rockstars and SpellingFrame! If you find any work tricky please email me via Purple Mash and I will do what I can to help.
Congratulations on your signing at Port Vale Owen!
Wow it sounds like you've been busy this week! History twice that's impressive! Your family tree sounds exciting. Did you enjoy doing your presentation? If you can, send it to me on Purple Mash I'd love to see it.
It's lovely to hear from you. I'm glad you're looking forward to Monday.
I know the graph says to record the volume for 5 days but if you're finding the milk is stale because of the heat then I would suggest getting rid of it and continue with the other liquids if you can.
Well done for all your hard work this week! I'm really impressed with what I'm hearing and seeing. Thank you for sharing your findings in science and interesting facts about the Anglo-Saxons on our blog. I've loved reading your work on Purple Mash.
