5B Blog 01.06.2020

Date: 1st Jun 2020 @ 9:12am

Good morning 5B!

I hope you all had a lovely half term. The weather was perfect! What have you all been up to? Did any of you do any of the activities suggested on the half term letter? Do not worry if you didn’t; these were only there in case you wanted any ideas for over the half term. However, I would love to know if you tried any. Please blog and tell me what you have done over the half term. I really do love hearing about what you have been doing.

Your home learning overview can be found on our class page. Simply go to 'Class Pages'; choose 5B and scroll down until you see 'Files to Download' - 'Year 5 Home Learning wb 1.06.20'. Have a look through all of the activities. If you have any questions, please reply to this blog or use Purple Mash 2Email. I think you will particularly enjoy science this week, where you will be searching for invertebrates using a classification key.

If you are not going on TT Rockstars regularly, please go on this week and also make sure that you are reading as much as you can. Make yourself a reading den outside and enjoy your book in peace. I started a new book over the half term which I love to read in the garden.

Our Zoom sessions will start again next week (week beginning 08.06.20). Keep a look out for the Zoom blog next Monday, where you will find more information about the focus of the session. I can't wait to see all your lovely smiley faces again!

Finally, did anyone watch the SpaceX launch? I'm fascinated by it and I can't stop reading and watching the video clips from NASA! The length of Hurley's and Behnken's stay at the ISS is uncertain but is likely to be somewhere between one and four months. Out of interest, who would love to be an astronaut in our class? One of their first tasks in orbit was simply to name their ship. If you don't know already, have a look how they came up with the name 'Endeavour'.

I hope you all have a lovely week and I very much look forward to hearing from you all.

Hi everyone. This week I have been working on my Digital Revolution work. Here is my favourite paragraph:
The digital revolution has evolved over the last 50 years, it has changed the way we live, learn and work. There has been a rapid development of digital technology. Until the 1980s people didn’t have computers in homes, schools and even some work places.

Also this week I have learnt how to build my very own Minecraft server. My dad showed me how to install and configure it and then I did my own and I know how to do it off by heart.
Hope you all have a nice week.

How are you? It sounds like you've been having lots of fun in your garden! Great to hear you've been reading - well done. Wow! I'm very impressed with the exercise you're doing with your dad. Those runs will definitely have you ready for the football season!

I hope you've had a lovely week so far and enjoyed the work.

Hi Ollie,

How are you? I watched it dock too! I found it so fascinating. You’re right the capsule is called Dragon, but I also read one of their first tasks in orbit was simply to name their ship. Radioing down to Earth, they announced it would be called Endeavour. Doug Hurley said: "We chose Endeavour for a few reasons: One, because of this incredible endeavour that Nasa, SpaceX and the US have been on since the end of the shuttle programme back in 2011. The other reason is a little more personal to Bob and I. We both had our first flights on shuttle Endeavour and it just meant so much to us to carry on that name." Endeavour was the ship commanded by British explorer James Cook.

Thank you for sharing you Digital Revolution work. You've put together a very informative paragraph - well done! Have you enjoyed this task?

Wow! Your Minecraft server sounds like lots of fun. What a great achievement that you can now do it independently. Great work Ollie.

Thank you for explaining about Endeavour to me.
Yes I have enjoyed the task. It has been my favourite this week.
I’m very proud of myself that I can do a minecraft server by myself.

Hi Mrs Berry

I have been working hard this week because my mum is not working for 3 weeks so she can help me with my school work. I have just finished my 2 page spread on the Digital Revolution and I am really proud of it.

I have been baking lots with my sister and enjoying the outdoors.

I hope you are ok and staying safe.
