6M's Class Page!

Welcome to the class page for your new year 6 class; I am really looking forward to having you all in class and getting started with the new school year! Remember you can use this page to access lots of useful information about Year 6 and you can also use the blog (or 2email on Purple Mash) to communicate with me directly.

Homework

This week your homework is to complete both sides of the A3 sheet on possessive apostrophes and multiplying and dividing by 10, 100 and 1000. If you struggle you could try drawing your own place value chart to work on!

Have a great weekend!

Important things to know

Homework will be given on a Friday and is due in the following Wednesday.

PE will be on Thursdays and Fridays, although kits are no longer needed.

What are we doing this year?

We begin Year 6 by studying The Wolves of Currumpaw in English. This was a new book last year which the clsss loved so I am sure you will really enjoy reading it and learning about The Old West. Our geography and history subjects link closely to this text. In geography we will be studying the landscape in Midwest America and the impact that European settlers had on this; it is fascinating to learn about how the influx on Europeans altered the landscape. Our history focus is the development of transportation. We will not only learn about how the development of new modes of transport enabled global trade and travel, but we will also learn the impact that transport had - and continues to have - right here in Middlewich.

In maths, we will begin by consolidating our place value knowledge before moving on to learning the calculation methods for addition, subtraction, multiplication and division. Please see the bottom of the page for some helpful videos showing our methods and remember you can access these and practise any time. Hopefully you are all confident with your timestables up to 12 x 12 by now but remember to keep using Times Table Rockstars to keep your tables fresh in your mind. Our first science topic is electricity, We will be experimenting with circuits and learning lots about how electricity works in the real world. In RE this term, we will be listening to a range of gospels and discussing what readers may learn from them whilst in art we will be learning about the famous artist Vincent Van Gogh and using his work as inspiration as we create our own portraits. We will also be continuing to broaden our Fench vocabulary with Madame Miller and developing our musical skills with the help of Mrs Biggs.

What are we doing for the rest of the year?

Look below to see some of the topics we will be covering this year. You can view the full curriculum on the curriculum page. Aswell as learning lots of exciting, new topics in Year 6, we will also be recapping on some of the learning that you missed out on in Year 5. We are in for a busy and enjoyable year!

Wow! What a lot of exciting topics we have to cover this year. We'll certainly be kept busy!

As the flagship year group we need to be responsible learners. Remember to use TTR, Purple Mash and all of the other helpful websites that we can access to support our learning!

I am really looking forward to us all working hard, doing our best and having a fantastic year together.
